I had an EPIC activity day yesterday!  Seriously, the best I have ever had!  I’m so pumped about it!
So yesterday I did Couch to 5K in the morning.  Usually on normal days that would earn me about 3 Activity PointsPlus.  Well, yesterday I added in even MORE activity and the points just kept racking up!
During lunch my coworker and I ran out to Old Navy and Whole Foods for a shopping errand and to pick up lunch. Just getting out of my office gets me walking more and that really helped.  Then, after lunch, my boss and I cleaned out a very packed closet full of old books and boxes of archives for about 1.5 hours. I was lifting and walking back and forth a TON.  That for sure helped. 
Then, as I was getting ready for bed, I plugged in my ActiveLink to check my status and I saw that I was at 185%.  I figured I had come that far, I might as well get all the way to 200%. And I did!  I walked and jogged and danced around my apartment for about 20 minutes and got the last 15%!  Holy crapola! 
And the best part? 10 Activity Points! Especially when I earned 20 in the entire last week and that was a record for me.  Boom!

Zumba!

Despite the cold and snow here in Chicago I got my butt to Zumba.  I walked the .6 miles there and .6 miles back and thoroughly enjoyed the class!

I’m really liking Zumba even if I am terrible at it.  It definitely has become something I look forward to on the weekends. If only it was a little bit earlier.  The class is at 11.15 and it’s just a bit too late.  10.15 would be perfect.  Oh well!

Two weeks.

Two weeks ago I packed my gym bag so I could workout after work. I changed my plans to go visit my uncle who’s health had taken a turn for the worse. Canceling my gym session and spending that evening with my uncle and his family was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time.

A few days later I got a terrible cold that kept me feeling crappy for the past week.

Last Sunday my uncle passed away and yesterday we laid him to rest. My uncle (who wasn’t really an uncle but was actually a cousin) was one of the best men I have ever met. He changed the lives of everyone he met. He was a wonderful father who left behind three young men and a wife who he loved very much.

As I unpacked my bag this morning to get ready for Zumba I remembered that day two weeks ago and how I thought we had more time with him. But the truth is we never really know how much more time we have. So I went to Zumba because I want to lose this weight. I need to be here as long as possible and losing weight will help that goal.

Get out there and move.

Mini Goal Monday

I’m finally feeling better!  I had a great weekend full of friends, food, resting up, museums and more friends.  It really was fantastic.  I wasn’t able to workout this weekend because I was still snotting and coughing a bunch but I think by this coming weekend I’ll be all better!  I’ve had three GREAT nights sleep and it is definitely helping. 

As far as my mini goals go, I can not say the same.  Last Monday I said I wanted to get at least one Activity PointsPlus per day.  Unfortunately with the nasty cold from hell, I was not able to meet that goal.  Here is what my week ended up looking like ActiveLink wise:

  • Monday: 89% = 0 Activity PointsPlus
  • Tuesday: 33% = 0 Activity PointsPlus (that was the day I stayed home from work and did NOTHING
  • Wednesday: 106% = 1 Activity PointsPlus
  • Thursday: 103% = 0 Activity PointsPlus
  • Friday: 111% = 1 Activity PointsPlus
  • Saturday: 150% = 4 Activity PointsPlus
  • Sunday: 104% = 0 Activity PointsPlus
  • Average of 99.42% and 6 Activity PointsPlus


This is not great.  But there is definitely room for improvement! So, my mini goal for this week is to finally succeed and earn at least one AP a day.  I need to hit this goal before I can move on.  


On a personal note, we had a death in the family last night. In respect of the immediate family I do not want to talk about it here, but I just wanted to let you all know that I may be a bit quiet around here this week.  I most likely will not be cooking as much and will be missing some work for the funeral.  I am still planning on tracking and trying to hit my goals (mini and otherwise) but I may be quiet. Thank you for all of your support.  

Despite my planning…

Plans changed for this evening.  I was planning on heading directly to the gym after work. I even had a bag packed and in the car with me.  But I ended up going to the suburbs with my mom and sister to visit with family instead.  I’m bummed I missed the chance to work out, but I am really glad with the decision I made.  

In related news, yesterday I got 2 APs (to make up for not getting any on Tuesday) and I already have one tonight!  Hooray for mini goals! 

Ok, heading to bed.  TOMORROW IS FRIDAY!!

This morning I literally dragged my butt out of bed at 5a to go run. I hadn’t run since last Tuesday (I know, I know!) so it felt really great to get out there. I was able to get through all 6 runs minus a few seconds on the 3rd and 5th runs. 

I think I need to focus more on getting a run in on the weekends so starting the next week isn’t so darn hard! I just need to make myself go for the first run. The ones following that aren’t bad. I’m looking forward to the next run because I feel so great today. So that is something I’m going to work on this week!

I’m looking forward to the next run because I feel so great today. So that is something I’m going to work on this week!

I survived! I had to run on the street this morning because I got up too early to run on the beach.  But it wasn’t too bad.  It also was super freezing outside so I had to wear a hoodie.  It was a good decision, but I didn’t like working out in that many layers.  Oh well, living in Chicago I guess I will have to get used to it!
As for the run itself, I made it through 5 of the 6 1.5 minute long runs.  I think that was pretty good for my first try!  It felt good to move on to week 2 (finally!) and change up the intervals.  
Running again on Wednesday!

I had to run on the street this morning because I got up too early to run on the beach.  But it wasn’t too bad.  It also was super freezing outside so I had to wear a hoodie.  It was a good decision, but I didn’t like working out in that many layers.  Oh well, living in Chicago I guess I will have to get used to it!

As for the run itself, I made it through 5 of the 6 1.5 minute long runs.  I think that was pretty good for my first try!  It felt good to move on to week 2 (finally!) and change up the intervals.

Oh man this mornings run was ROUGH! 

I don’t have to leave my house until 11 this morning so getting my butt out of bed at 6a was brutal. I ended up getting up by 6.40 and was out the door by 7. I literally convinced myself not to go three times before I walked out the door. 

And then while I was out I actually almost quit at least 4 times. But I didn’t! So that was the win for the day.  

There were a lot more people out this morning and it was the first time I ran in the sun which added some new variety to the morning. And I dressed more appropriate this morning than yesterday! 

My distance was down from all the previous runs by about .20 miles. And my average mile per minute was up by about a minute. Not good things! But I did it and that’s really all that matters at this point. 

Now, off to a mini conference/webinar about  iPads in the library! Should be interesting.

Annnnnnd I was right.  Another gain.  1.2 pounds. UGH!  

But I had a really nice chat with my leader Justin and he offered the suggestion I try cutting down some of my weekly points.  I usually use all or most of them so this week I’m going to try and use as few of them as possible.  This is a good week to try this because I don’t have much going on this weekend. I’m still going to track and use my activity points but I’m going to do my best not to dip into my APs.  Hopefully this, along with the additional exercise, can help kick start me to get past this stupid f-ing plateau.  

Also, shark week is a-coming.  That might have something to do with the gain as well.

Yay!  Another run DONE!
I made it through all 8 runs fairly easily.  I think that after the next run I will definitely be ready for week 2.  
I woke up with the start of a sore throat and I reallllly didn’t want to get out of bed.  But I did it and I’m glad I did.  I’m really hoping I’m not getting sick because that is exactly the kind of thing that will throw me off course with this running thing.  I know if I get sick I won’t run for a few days and then have a harder time getting back into it.  Hopefully my immune system (with the help of vitamin C) can kick this thing and I can run again this weekend.  
Also, my body is feeling pretty good.  I definitely feel like I had a workout but I don’t feel like I’m going to die. Awesome! 
Things I saw: one homeless man sleeping, one awake homeless man, a tractor moving sand on the beach, zero dogs, 5 other runners and no sunrise.

I was crazy tired this morning went my alarm went off at 4.50.  Like, I could have slept for 8 more hours tired. But I got my butt out of bed.  And then my stomach felt kind of wonky.  So I drank a glass of water and had a piece of cheese.  That seemed to help. 
The run itself was definitely much better than the previous ones.  Like I said, I finished all the runs so that was great! Today was the first day I was able to do that.  I covered 1.92 miles in just over 30 minutes.  
Things I saw: two sleeping homeless men, lots of dogs and a couple runners, the sun rising (see above!)

It’s just barely 7a on a Saturday…

And I already finished my run for the day! Hey-o!!

Ok so I set my alarm for 5.15 but I literally couldn’t pull myself out of bed on only 5 hours of sleep. So I snoozed a few times and got up at about 6.

Today I ran C25K W1D3. My goal was to get through all 8 runs and I almost reached that goal. I only walked through the last 10 seconds of three of the runs. Not perfect but definitely better than the first two days! I’m thinking I may redo today’s run on Tuesday instead of starting week 2. I really want to be able to run the full 8 runs, damn it!

Things I saw: dogs and runners, a man doing tai chi, one homeless man sleeping, three men with metal detectors on the beach, two pairs of shorts, a lost baseball cap, one man with snorkel/scuba gear pulling something up by the breakers, a prayer/praise group and one pile of what I’m assuming is Friday night party vomit.
